Idaho Food Bank Giving Away Free Protein, Dairy and Essentials Today
October is Hunger Awareness Month and It feels like more than a footnote on some calendar. This year people have been losing jobs to the ongoing pandemic and families are hungry.
The Idaho Food Bank is back today with another community food distribution drop-off for Idahoans in need of some extra assistance.
I've been writing about these all year and It was actually KTVB's post that caught my attention. I missed this one. Let's get you the information so you can get some free food. This one is happening today so you'll need to spread the word and I'll post information regarding the one in Caldwell. Today's distribution is happening at Expo Idaho.
This is part of the "Farmers to Families Food Box Program" that comes in way of the USDA's Coronavirus Food Assistance Program. You might not even know that this existed but it does. Things began in June and are currently in phase 3 of the Farmers to Families. Today you can get your boxes in Garden City and this phase ends on Halloween in Caldwell. I'm not sure if they renew but I would be surprised if we see another phase.
You don't have to show any proof of anything. Just show up and they will drop 2 boxes of food for the family. You will receive the things your family needs like produce, Dairy, and Protein. The Idaho Food Bank doesn't ask you any questions regarding why. This program was created on the already known, "why." The pandemic put millions around the country out of work and the Idaho Food Bank sit on that front line. They want to help along with our farmers.
You can't make it? There are distribution areas that you can pick up food. Follow the link below and get more information including a distribution finder for your zip code.
