I was raised to believe marking up your body with tattoos was an unnatural thing only heathens would have done to their bodies. My mom is not a fan of tattoos in the slightest and always warned myself and my siblings that she would be disappointed beyond all measure if we were ever to show up "marked all over."

But try as she might, that belief never took hold for me. In fact, her staunch opposition made me want to get a tattoo as soon as I could. Still fearing her disappointment, I didn't quite get to sitting in the ink chair when I hit 18. It was at 21 when I could legally consume liquid courage that I mustered it to get a tattoo on the back of my neck. A spot I could easily hide from mi madre, of course.

The tattoo itself was a pitiful little thing. Just a generic symbol of my zodiac sign, Cancer. And the wrath I endured from my mother when she finally discovered it was truly not worth having this lame mark on the back of my neck. I wish I hadn't gotten it done on such a whim. I might have chosen something I truly like.

12 years later and not living with my mom, I'm ready to start tatting up again. This time I put real thought into what I want inked on me forever. As a huge Game of Thrones fan, I want something simple to show my fandom but that also has relevance to my daily life. Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken. Those are the words of House Martell from the series and they signify never being conquered, which is how I like to feel about my spirit. Cheesy? Maybe, but I love it!

I'm hellbent on getting tatted tomorrow. Ink Slaves Tattoo has been the top recommendation. Of course I'm open to suggestions! Where did you get your ink done? Do you know a guy who knows a guy? Hit me up!
