It was a big day for Special Olympics Idaho yesterday.

Organizers broke ground on a new athlete Training for Life Center in Garden City.

With their golden shovels in hand, the ceremonial scoop of dirt marks the start for a brand new facility that will include a gym, as well as health and wellness programs.

Not only will it be a place for athletes to train, but to support one another.

Dillon Sanders, a Special Olympics athlete said "I've pretty much learned a lot of skills since my first year to that I'd like to say a word to all the new athletes that want to join Special Olympics, that you need to do your best and not to be shy and once you join, you'll get new friends right on the dot,"

The project is now about halfway to its funding goal.

I love that we have facilities and organizations like this right here in Idaho!
