Open Letter To Meridian High School’s Marching Band
This goes for all Treasure Valley bands, really... But as someone who lives right across from Meridian High School, we need to discuss the noise.
Make ALL the noise! Make memories, make harmony and enjoy every moment... Let me tell you, it goes quickly and when it's over, it's over. I live in a neighborhood across the street from Meridian High School and I can often hear the band play. As a former Marching Band kid in high school AND college, I enjoy this to the fullest! It's amazing to hear the band out practicing in the school's parking lot, to hear them get better and better every single week, to hear them laugh and have a great time. It all takes me back to some of my most fond memories in life... You build such a close network of friends (of course there's a little drama, too... I mean it IS high school), but it all goes by so fast, and before you know it, these great times are a distant memory.
Not that anyone is looking for my advice but if you'd like it, I'll tell you this... Enjoy every moment, in fact, try to live IN the moment. The future will happen regardless but this time you're experiencing right now is special; the friendships you'll remember forever, the football games, the competitions, walking out on a cold and wet football field with a cold instrument in your hand can feel a little brutal in the moment but one day, you'll get a whiff of grass and it'll take you right back to where you are right now. In the words of the great Ferris Bueller, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
