Local Firefighters are learning new ways to reach anyone in need in the nation's forests through the Short Haul Training Academy.

With proper communication and teamwork, Seth Weber with the National Short Haul Service, says they are one step closer to saving a life.

Thirty five rookie and veteran firefighters from five states including Idaho have gone through the training with one major goal in mind...zero fatalities

Weber says every situation is different and there won't be one solution that works every time, and when you add Idaho's rugged terrain he says it's important to be prepared for anything.

Basically this academy will add another tool to their tool bag and what they learn they'll be able to take back to their respective units and the new skills could be the difference between life and death.
