IKEA Recalls Furniture After Children’s Death
IKEA has issued a recall for at least 29 million chests and dressers that can easily tip over onto children, injuring or causing death. The "Malm" series product has been recalled because they can "be a danger".
Customers are eligible for a free repair kit to anchor the furniture to a wall or a refund will also be offered.
One of the saddest and most shocking thing that I read, were the statistics on injury from falling furniture. Every 24 minutes, a child is sent to the emergency room by a falling piece of furniture or a television, and every two weeks, a child dies. (According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.)
My one year old is at the age where he is walking around and likes to explore. I have always been a "helicopter mom" and watch him like a hawk because I fear of this exact thing happening.
If you have ANY furniture that is not anchored to the wall and could be a hazard, pick up one of the anchoring kits at any hardware store.
Please share this story with anyone you know that has little children or IKEA furniture that may be a danger for them.
