Idahoans Prepare For Earthquakes This Thursday Morning
Idaho is a high risk area for earthquakes....need proof? The USGA has tracked over 1000 measurable earthquakes in Idaho over the past year...yes over 1000..there have even been a couple earthquakes in Southeastern Idaho today already. Are you prepared? Thursday morning (10/19) at 10:19 MST you can take part in the Great Shakeout.
The Great American Shakeout is designed to make sure we are all prepared in case an earthquake hits.
I have been through several earthquakes in my life including the big one in California during the world Series in in 1989. I lived about 45 miles away from the epicenter and it's one of the craziest things I've ever been through and at the time I was in no way prepared for it... I remember just sitting and watching everything shake and swing...I didn't move to a safe area or anything...it was my first earthquake. That's what the Great Shakeout is all about...making sure you're ready to do what it takes to keep you and your family safe.
According to the Great Idaho ShakeOut web site over 81,000 Idaho residents participated last year in Idaho alone. Let’s hope that an even greater number take part in this year’s event.
