Idaho Bill Would Ban Transgender Women Athletes in Schools
This is a tough one. I have people in my life that I have so much respect for that have children who are transgender. This bill would ban transgender women from athletics in Idaho schools.
Republican Barbara Ehardt wants to ban transgender women athletes from participating in sports that align with their gender identity. According to an article on KTVB bill was introduced Wednesday in the House Education Committee.
Apparently this bill would cause a real problem with colleges and universities in Idaho that are a part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The NCAA allows athletes to play on teams that associate with their gender identity, but Ehardt says it's a "roadblock"to girls and women who want to play with their peers.
I guess I can see that physically a transgender woman may be physically stronger than her typical peers. Is that a "roadblock"? I'm not educated enough on this issue to know.
I'm sitting down with a friend of mine next week for my "Not the Way I Planned" podcast who has a child that is female to male transgender and I'm interested to hear her point of view on this subject.
What are your thoughts? Should transgender male to female athletes be able to play sports on a female team?
