The 100 cities in America with the largest populations have been ranked from least safe to safest, or from safest to least safe depending on how you organize it. The great news is this, Boise ranks in the top 10 safest American cities to ride your bike. The bad news is: there are 8 whole cities where it's safer to ride a bike than Boise. Here are the Top 10 safest cities to ride a bike:
- Nashville, TN
- El Paso, TX
- Greensboro, NC
- Henderson, NV
- Anchorage, AK
- Plano, TX
- Winston-Salem, NC
- North Las Vegas, NV
- Boise, ID
- Raleigh, NC
Now what about the top 20 LEAST safe cities to ride a bike:
- Stockton, CA is the absolute LEAST safe American city to ride a bike... Don't do it!
- Baton Rouge, LA
- Tampa, FL
- Sacramento, CA
- New Orleans, LA
- Miami, FL
- Modesto, CA
- Jacksonville, FL
- Albuquerque, NM
- Tucson, AZ
It looks like Florida, California and Louisiana are all states you want to steer clear of if you like to commune via pedals and a painful seat. But Boise, not so bad! We have 0.9 fatalities per 1 Million residents annually, and we don't have a million people so if you do the math on that, that's one cyclist death every few years at most here in Boise. Obviously we want none but it is good to know we're among the safer communities for cyclists.
