These are those situations that just can't happen. It's tragic and it's usually an accident; a forgetful moment that changes the course of so many lives forever but it just cannot happen. Unfortunately, it does happen. You hear stories like this around the country all the time but it really hits home when one of these innocent little souls suffer and pay the ultimate sacrifice right here in our very own backyard.

It's been almost a year since 5-month-old Kyrae Vineyard was pronounced dead after being left alone in a car with the windows up in a hot car for hours. 25-year-old Haven Hackworth was babysitting his girlfriend's daughter and completely forgot about her as he ran errands ultimately landing him at a car dealership where he was going through the process of buying a vehicle. Kyrae died from hypothermia.

Hackworth went back to the vehicle at one point to retrieve his vape pen and still didn't notice the baby in the back seat. Kyrae's mother sent him several texts as well. We're not exactly sure why those texts didn't remind him she was in the car but when Kyrae's body was found she was at 106 degrees.

According to KTVB Haven Hackworth pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was originally sentenced to 3 1/2 years. A judge suspended that sentence giving Hackworth a total of nine months in jail, three years on felony probation and fines totaling more than $6,000.

A year after this tragic event we still think and pray for Kyrae's mother and family.  Please let this be a reminder as temperatures start heating up to be extra careful and extra aware when it comes to babies, toddlers, and pets.
