The Ultimate Pepper Challenge Comes To Nampa
Cooler weather might be arriving in the Treasure Valley, but that's not stopping Nampa from turning up the heat on September 21st!
Can you handle the heat?
There are plenty of food challenges out there and more recently, we had a chance to witness Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi going head-to-head in a hot dog eating contest on Netflix.
Now, we have another food challenge to look forward to and it's taking place at the Nampa Farmers Market on September 21st.
"Fans of super hot, taste-bud torturing hot peppers have the opportunity to test their capsaicin tolerance at the Nampa Farmers Market on Saturday, September 21," Nampa Farmers Market said in a press release to us.
"Contestants will be lined up and given a succession of hot peppers starting with relatively mild peppers like the Jalapeno (3500-8000 Scoville Units) and Serrano (8000-23,000 Scoville Units) progressing to Habanero (200,000 – 350,000 Scoville Units), Ghost Pepper (1,000000 Scoville Units) and even hotter. (if it gets that far!)"
What do you get for winning? How much does it cost?
If you're able to eat the hottest pepper without quitting, you'll get to take home a $300 prize and... not making this up... a bottle of Tums. The second-place winner will get $200 and the third-place winner will receive $100.
At the time of this publishing it is not known whether or not the runner-ups will receive a bottle of Tums, so plan your attempt accordingly!
Kidding aside, there will also be commemorative t-shirts for all entrants so at least you don't leave empty-handed. It costs $30 to enter and you can enter by visiting the Nampa Farmers Market Saturdays from 9 AM-1 PM. The contest is expected to start around 11 AM.
You can get more details on registration on their website at NampaFarmersMarket.com.
