It is always important to be aware of wildlife if you are going out in the woods. This time of year you need to be bear aware and Idaho Fish and Game is warning hunters to be aware and know the difference in species.

Idaho panhandle spring black bear hunt begins April 15. A reminder that grizzlies are federally protected.  It's important to know the difference in the species cause they can look similar at times. According to bearsmart.com Black bears can be black, blue-black, dark brown, brown, cinnamon and even white. Grizzlies, likewise, may range in colour, from black to blond. The grizzly bear has a pronounced shoulder hump, which the black bear lacks.

Not only being aware is important but whatever is your line of defense to always have it ready. Make your presence known and be bear aware.
