Idaho DMV Suffers Meltdown…Again
Root canals? Spending the weekend with your in-laws? Are there many more things in your adult life that you have to do that are more painful than making a trip to the DMV?
We vote no. In fact, I hate making that trip so much that I chose to renew my license through 2022 the last time I had to get a new one. That was a solid plan until I decided to get married. Now I cringe thinking about going back there to get a license with my new name after it's legally changed in August.
Some people don't have the luxury of putting it off a couple of months and need to get their new license or state ID card...yesterday. They need it for things like applying for home loans, traveling out of state, etc, but if seems like every time they make the trip into the DMV there's a major hang-up preventing them from getting it.
According to KTVB, the Idaho Transportation Department's battle with their licensing software vendor, Gemalto, reared it's ugly head again on Tuesday and caused another statewide outage. Similar outages happened in December 2017 and April 2018, but ITD still can't figure out exactly what's causing the problem between their servers and the servers of the Indiana-based company.
As of 9:30 on Wednesday morning, it looks like the DMV worked through the night to get things up and running again. If you're skeptical and are making a special trip to a county DMV location hoping to get your new license, you can always check the DMV status on their website HERE.
The silver lining? Registration and title services never went down. ITD also said that all customer information is secure, even with the computer problems.
