GBAD To Open $5 Million Boise Aquatics Center
As someone who has recently taken to swimming and fallen in love with it, this is exciting news for Treasure Valley swimmers and those who would like to try it!
In their Wednesday meeting, the Greater Boise Auditorium District heard from three local swimmers, Ryan Stratton, Jeff Erwin and Melanie Rubocki who proposed a new state of the art aquatic center.
According to the Idaho Statesmen:
A trio of swim enthusiasts has banded together to build a swimming-pool center they say could meet the growing need for more pools in the Treasure Valley. The trio — Ryan Stratton, whose father is a former president of USA Swimming; Jeff Erwin, the swimming coach at Boise High School; and Melanie Rubocki, the managing partner of the Perkins Coie law firm in Boise — say they have already raised $1 million toward the project and scouted potential sites.
This is incredible news for Treasure Valley Swimmers. I've been swimming at the West Boise YMCA and aquatic center, which is.a gorgeous facility, but since the Covid-19 pandemic, has had to limit availability of swim lanes and schedule times for members to swim. Understandably so, as we don't know exactly when things will go back to "normal", it is refreshing to hear the GBAD has committed to putting forth such a significant amount of money to fund another amazing aquatic center here in the Treasure Valley.
I'm no long-time swimmer, though I have been taking advantage of it as an incredible way to lose weight. To date, I've lost 17 pounds. To read more about that, check out this article I wrote earlier this month.
