Chipotle’s Payment System Gets Hacked
If you used your credit or debit card at Chipotle in Boise or Nampa or at the Village at Meridian recently, watch your credit card statements for some squirrelly activity. Chipotle's payment systems were hacked earlier this month, and some of your info may have been compromised.
Don't hackers drive ya nuts? Always up to something unscrupulous with a little too much free time on their hands.
The layers of security may have stopped these hackers from getting much information in this latest attempt at mischief, but Chipotle says it did suffer a hack and noticed unauthorized activity across the network of payment systems sometime between March 24 and April 18. They're working with law enforcement, cyber security, and payment processors to sort through it all.
They'll start notifying affected customers as soon as they have all of the facts in terms of what information, if any, was swiped, and what the next steps would be. For now, they just want us to monitor bank statements and be aware to watch for anything suspicious.
Have you ever been a victim of a cyber hack? My card was compromised in that Target hack a few years ago, and Target was quick to shut down my Red Card and send me a new one. I'm sure Chipotle and the experienced investigators will nip this in the bud too.
Now, the good news. If the burrito bowls aren't enough deliciousness for you, Chipotle says its going to start testing its first dessert soon, called Bunuelos. that's crispy fried tortilla strips and you can dip 'em in honey. Sweets make it all better.
