Avalanche Shuts Down US 20 Between Mt Home & Fairfield
If you're heading out anywhere this week, make sure to 'Know Before You Go'. Although we're pretty much just getting rain here in the Boise area, much of Idaho is getting pelted with lots of snow causing slick roads, whiteout conditions, and 'YES' avalanches.
US Highway 20 is currently shut down in two different places. One is a 43 mile stretch between Carey and Arco where there are snow drifts, high winds, and low visibility. This is the fourth day in a row that at least some part of US 20 has been closed due to the inclement weather we've been receiving.
The other area of US 20 shutting down comes from not just from a possible avalanche but an actual avalanche has taken place at milepost 124 between Castle Rock Road and Cat Creek Summit. That’s approximately 27 miles west of Fairfield.
