I escaped high school without having to fight through any sort of acne. I may have had a zit here and there but nothing to freak out about compared to what some of my peers had to go through. Just because I escaped it in high school though doesn’t mean I was off the hook. Fast forward five years later as I’m in my early twenties and BAM - acne. I’m talking full-blown cystic acne from cheek to cheek. My mental health was even starting to suffer because I felt so insecure. I hated looking in the mirror. Any pictures I saw of myself pre-acne just made me feel even more worse. I really wish I could’ve just suffered through middle school and high school along with everyone else instead of right now. I was desperate to do anything to cure my face. I don’t even want to disclose to you how much money I’ve spent on products, treatments, and medicine.

Acne is a disease though. It’s not because you’re a dirty person or you did anything wrong. Maybe you just use the wrong products or maybe it’s just genetics. A lot of the time it is actually influenced by many lifestyle factors such as diet, stress, and even where you live. I’ve come a long way on my journey to clear skin but I still have a ways to go. I started visiting an aesthetician who customized a skincare routine for me which is really working. I also changed my diet to cut out dairy and cheese - not completely though of course but maybe one day.

If you're someone who suffers from adult-acne specifically there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I recommend reaching out to an acne specialist who can help you specifically because everyone is different in their own beautiful skin.
