What Is Blackout Tuesday?
You're probably seeing a lot of black squares on your timeline today, here's the deal.
With all this happening in the world, a lot of people have felt that some understanding is necessary. So Celebrities, sports figures, corporations, music labels and more have all pledged not to post anything on social media today, other than a blank, black screen. The organizers have said the idea behind this is to have "a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with our community through an urgent step of action to provoke accountability and change."
The official hashtag is #TheShowMustBePaused. Blackout Tuesday is meant to "intentionally disrupt the workweek."
The hopes are that people will see this and take some time to reflect on others' experiences, particularly the #BlackLivesMatter movement. It's a hostile and highly divided world right now, hopefully soon we can come together and love one another, and have justice for all.
