It seems impossible to take a vacation without spending a fortune. Everyone deserves a getaway now and then. A breakaway from the day to day monotony of life to refresh and unwind. A nice trip doesn’t have to break the bank either.

Start by exploring your own backyard and be a tourist in your own town! We have so many amazing destinations right here in the Treasure Valley, which you may or may not have explored. Heart Lake, the Hyatt Wetlands, and if you’re feeling adventurous, bike along the Hiawatha Trail.

If you choose to leave town, remember that hotel rates fluctuate throughout the year. Obviously, you will get a much lower rate if you go during an off season. That’s not always possible, but if you can plan your vacation during this time or mid-week, you will be sure to stretch your funds even further. Also, focus on hotels that offer free breakfast, parking, and a pool.

Keep your cost of meals low by bringing a cooler in your car to stock with snacks and drinks from the grocery store. Choose foods that don’t need to be heated up or a kitchen to make such as picnic foods. If you do treat yourselves to a restaurant, choose to do so during lunchtime when menus are less expensive.

Enjoy some free fun along with trips to amusement parks or museums. Plan ahead or ask your hotel concierge for directions to local parks, nature trails, farmer’s markets, and special events happening in town.
