Tips From an Idaho Attorney On How to Act When a Cop Stops You
The Dos & Don'ts of Idaho Traffic Stops
BOISE, Idaho. For many, getting pulled over by law enforcement can be an uncomfortable experience. And whether or not someone knows why they're being pulled over can add to or reduce their anxiety in the situation. Because knowing better leads to doing better, we're exploring the dos and don'ts of getting pulled over in Idaho.
Idaho Criminal Defense Attorney William Young says his clients frequently ask the same three questions regarding traffic stops.
- "Can I refuse to answer every question?"
- "What do I say if I'm pulled over after a drink or two, but I'm not under the influence?"
- "Don't I have a better chance of being let go if I'm really honest?"
You don't have to pass the Idaho State Bar Exam to know those are three reasonable questions and curiosities. While Young agrees, the attorney says it's the manner in which most Idahoans will answer them that becomes the issue.
