Steelheads Announce Schedule Change For Upcoming Season
In a time when many events are still being pushed back, either by a few months or even a whole year, the Idaho Steelheads have announced a change to their schedule that actually moves their 2021-22 season opener up by one week.
It's been a long time since we've seen the Steelheads play hockey. Their last game was on March 7th, when Idaho fell to the South Carlina Stingrays 5-4 at CenturyLink Arena. Less than a week later, On March 12th, 2020, the East Coast Hockey League canceled the remainder of the season, including the playoffs, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
This year, the ECHL did play an entire season, but 13 teams, including our Idaho Steelheads, opted out. We were told that the Steelheads would be back for the 2021-22 season, but we also know that there are no guarantees for getting through a pandemic.
When the Steelheads return, they will be playing in the same arena but with a new name. The Idaho Central Arena will host the season opener on October 22nd. That is a whole week sooner than their original announcement.
We don't have any more schedule information than that. We don't know who the opponent will be or even how many teams will return for the 2021-22 season. We're just happy to have hockey back in Boise, and we're counting down the days to October 22nd, which is 140-something days away. Maybe we'll start the countdown in October when it's easier to do the math.
