I'm pretty stoked about this... A brand new, state-of-the-art aquatics center is getting ready to open up at the South Meridian YMCA. This has been in the works for years, here's what we know!

Nothing rivals the West Boise YMCA Aquatics Center, which opened back in 1996 near Chinden and Eagle Roads. I've been swimming there for a bit now and I love it; it's got 3 pools, the lap lane pool is MASSIVE and it's home to competitive swimming in the Treasure Valley.

Now, 25 years later, Treasure Valley YMCA is getting ready to open a brand new aquatics center at their South Meridian YMCA facility. The South Meridian YMCA has been open for a bit but the aquatics center has been under construction. According to a 2019 story from our friends at KTVB, the new aquatics center will be a:

22,000-square-foot aquatic facility includes a lap pool, recreation and lesson pool, waterslide, lazy river, kiddie pool with beach entry, and an outdoor splashpad.

A source with the South Meridian YMCA told me Thursday that the plan is to open the new aquatics center in June. Since the pandemic began, swim lanes at the other three Treasure Valley YMCA pools have been available by online reservation only, and the demand is really high. This will hopefully alleviate some of that as well as provide a closer location for Treasure Valley residents and swimmers who live closer to the South Meridian YMCA near Amity and Eagle.

I, for one, can't wait to check out the new facility and get my swim on. Read about how I've been losing weight and getting in better shape at the West Boise YMCA here.
