If you or your son or daughter are in middle or high school here in the Treasure Valley, please share this incredible, new app with them. It’s called “Sit With Us” and it makes finding friends in the school cafeteria easy. Some students have a hard time finding a place to sit or a welcoming group to join in the lunchroom. Plus it helps cut down on bullying, which is such a huge issue these days.

You can download the app, if your school doesn’t have a host yet, you can choose to be an “ambassador,” and invite others to join. Ambassadors can post “open lunch” events, which notify anyone looking for a place to sit that they can join the ambassadors table.

The creator is Natalie Hampton, a 16-year-old from Sherman Oaks, California, who was inspired to create it after she ate alone her entire seventh grade year. She said she felt vulnerable and it made her a target for bullying.

The app makes it very private. It’s through the phone. No one else has to know and therefore you know you’re not going to be rejected once you get to the table.

What an amazing idea and opportunity for students to make the middle and high school experience a positive one. #KindIsTheNewCool
