Memorial To Honor Patty Duke In Coeur d’ Alene

Patty Duke, or as she was known to her close friends and family, Anna, was remembered during a public memorial service in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Saturday.

Loved ones shared stories at Lake City Church.

Duke's son Mackenzie Astin praised her for using her own bipolar disorder and celebrity status to advocate for the mentally ill, noting, "she put a beautiful face to the illness."

Melissa Gilbert was in attendance as well. She played Helen Keller in Miracle Worker opposite Duke. She said, "I hate that I'm here, and yet I love that I'm here to celebrate my dear teacher friend, Anna,"

A nephew of hers ended the services by thanking the people of Idaho, where she has lived in the last decades of her life, for finally calling her by her real name, Anna.
