Federal Government Notifies States of Election Hacking: Idaho Not Listed

There has been a lot of talk about outside countries and entities influencing our last election.  Now, the federal government has notified 21 states about tampering. 

The good news:  Idaho is not one of those states.

This "heads-up" was delivered Friday from government officials to election officials int he 21 states that were targeted by hackers in the lead up to the presidential election.

The Department of Homeland Security has been looking into targeted hacking efforts that could be connected to Russia.  Some states has already announced that they suspected they had been targeted including Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Ohio.

The Associated Press looked into this and confirmed other states who said they received the notification included Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Washington.  The list appears to be missing one state.

Officials stressed that just because a state was targeted, that doesn't mean that sensitive information or voter data was manipulated or even compromised.  Just that they were targeted.

This has one again brought up the criticism that DHS (and other officials) need to react with much more transparency much sooner if things like targeted hacking are discovered.
