There are dozens of dogs and cats in the Treasure Valley waiting to be adopted, but if you've got a full house and you're not in a place to add a pet right now there are other ways to help.

The Idaho Humane Society is giving us some easy ways to plug in this week and help the animals.

If you're a cat person, the Sip N Purr auction and fundraiser is coming up this Thursday, February 28th, at the Linen Building from 6:00-9: 00 pm.  They'll celebrate cats with Idaho wines, light appetizers from Pat Mac's Catering, and live and silent auctions, and you'll be able to adopt cats right there at the event.  The goal is to raise $20,000 as they find permanent homes for all of those future Youtube stars. We love cat videos.

And it's still early in 2019, so it's a good time to order the Friends for Life calendar and flip to a new featured pet each month this year.  The Humane Society says proceeds from calendar sales help the Idaho Humane Society feed, shelter, provide medical care and find adoptive homes for thousands of animals every year. The calendars are $14.95 each.

Adopting a pet is one of the most rewarding things I've done.  The day I found my mini Pinscher mix named Libby she was in a crate at an adoption event at the neighborhood pet store and she was a nervous wreck as if she didn't know where "home" was.  She's the timidest dog ever, but she's a sweet girl who just craves the security of a routine and she found it with us.  I'm so glad we wandered into the pet store that day, and that nobody snatched her up before we did.  I think she's glad too.

Check out the Treasure Valley shelters and for your adoptable pup, and feel great that you helped save a life.  How great would it be if we cleared the shelters completely and got all of these great pets into permanent homes?  Whether it's through adoption or fundraising, we can do this.  The pets are counting on us.
