Did You Know the Official Center of the Universe is Located Here in Idaho?
I've lived in Idaho my whole life, but I'm always surprised to learn something new about our little state. Like this little tidbit that I recently learned. Did you know that the exact center of the Universe was located in Idaho?
Turns out, the center of the universe is located in Wallace, Idaho - located 50 minutes inland from Coeur d'Alene. The town celebrates being the center of the universe with an official manhole cover that shows the exact spot of the center of the universe resides! You can find this fun spot located between Bank and Sixth St. in downtown Wallace.
The area is absolutely beautiful, but went through some very hard times back in the 70’s and 80s. At the time, the U.S. government declared that it was one of the most polluted spots in the country because of lead released into the environment during silver mining in the area.
The EPA spent over 20 years cleaning up the area and it’s seen a financial bounce back in business and population growth over the past few decades. Now, this small north Idaho town which is home to about 800 people truly appears like God meant for it to be the center of our universe!

If it isn't enough that Wallace is the center of the Universe, it's also home to a few movies, one of which was called Dante's Peak starring Pierce Brosnan.
