Mosquitoes in Canyon County tested positive for West Nile Virus last month and now Ada County have tested positive.

The infected insects were caught in a trap in an area north of Chinden Boulevard and Ten Mile Road in Meridian. Another trap along the Boise River near Star captured a mosquito that showed a temporary positive for the disease.

The Ada County Weed, Pest and Mosquito Abatement Department will be fogging in one square mile around the area where the positive mosquitoes were found, and will continue to conduct testing at sites around Ada County.

West Nile Virus is a virus that can cause rash, headache and fever and can be fatal in rare cases.

Protect yourself and your family from mosquitoes by wearing insect repellent and long-sleeved clothing and draining standing water that can serve as an insect breeding ground.
