This story seems to have hit everywhere yesterday.  Fraternal twin brothers who are models and live in LA come out to their dad by phone.

Austin and Aaron Rhodes have a YouTube channel and have been vlogging their lives since moving to LA to pursue a modelling career.  They said that they wanted to start 2015 being completely authentic in their lives, and the final step was for both to come out to their father in Ohio.

I have had friends come out to me, and I have heard stories of coming out to parents and family, but I had never seen it in person.  This video was intense.  I found myself feeling deep empathy for these brothers as they became emotional and you can tell how nervous they were to unpack this news.

I realized I have never dealt with a question of how my parents might receive me sharing something in my life.  That has to be an incredibly difficult position.  I watched the video with a friend of mine who is gay, and this scene was quite familiar to them.  They even had empathy for the dad and reminded me "he's trying to process this all...and say the right thing."

The thing I left me certain of is that I want a relationship with my son where even if he had something to tell me that he knew had the potential to surprise or challenge me, I want him to know I would love him no matter what that was, and that he could share it with me.

This video helped me realize the need to do everything in my power to build and maintain that.
