Reese’s Creates a Candy-Dispensing Door
Whether or not trick-or-treating would be happening this year was question for every community around the country. Just like with literally everything else in 2020 we've had to adapt and adjust the way we do things. Children going door to door doesn't sound like the safest thing to do in the middle of a pandemic in my opinion, but there are alternatives.
Hershey's has created the Reese's robot door - a robotic door that detects when someone says "trick or treat" then automatically dispenses king-sized packs of Reese's peanut butter cups! This will give children and homeowners are completely contactless Halloween experience. The nine-foot door can be operated by remote control from up to 5,000 feet away so that takes care of the social distancing.
Here's the best part: Reese's is giving this door away! A "deserving town" could have trick-or-treaters knocking on the big orange door on Halloween night. I'm thinking it would look great somewhere on Harrison Boulevard. When I first moved here a couple of months ago, there spirit of Halloween on Harrison Blvd. was actually one of the first things I learned about Boise. I'm not sure how Reese's is defining the word "deserving" but in my opinion there isn't a better place for this big orange candy-dispensing door.
So I say we all enter on behalf of the city of Boise and tag @Reese's on Instagram with an explanation of why we believe our town deserves the door and also use the hashtag #ReesesDoor. A company spokesperson said the date they'll announce the winner is not yet determined but the door will surely arrive by Halloween time.
