Residents in Oregon are looking to become the first state in the nation to legalize "magic mushrooms."Multiple media outlets, including Newsweek, report that the Oregon Attorney General has approved a ballot measure to make illegal or psychedelic mushrooms legal.

To make the mushrooms legal, the mushroom advocates will have to collect almost 120,000 certified signatures.  If 117,578 are collected then it will be on the ballot for the general election in 2020.

The Oregon Psilocybin Society is the driving force behind this initiative.  They cite reports that believe access to 'magic mushrooms' would help folks suffering from suicide to PTSD.

If the measure passes, Oregon would be the first state to legalize 'magic mushrooms.'  California failed in its attempt to legalize, according to Channel 7.

The measure, if passed into law, would reduce criminal penalties for those growing, possessing or consuming psilocybin mushrooms, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting via Oregon Live.
