Ok Idaho, Would You Try Ice Cream Made with Real Potatoes?
I went to visit family in Arizona recently and during the trip showed my Idaho I.D. to get a drink. Excitedly like she just discovered something amazing, the woman checking my I.D. said, "Oh IDAHO! You live in the land of Potatoes!" It doesn't seem to matter how many people visit, move here or how much time goes by, Idaho -to outsiders- will probably always be known as 'The land of Potatoes' and we are just fine with it.
Potatoes are amazing, filling, cheap, versatile and easy to grow. Potatoes have been a staple food since as far back as we know. There are tons of varieties of potatoes and even more ways to prepare them. Have you heard of Potato Ice Cream though? This is not to be confused with an Ice Cream Potato, which is ice cream prepared to look like a baked potato. If you want to learn how to easily make an Ice Cream potato for a fun Idaho inspired treat check out easy instructions here.
Potato Ice Cream, is different and is actually made with potatoes. The Idaho Potato Commission has been around since 1937 and "is a state agency that is responsible for promoting and protecting the famous "Grown in Idaho®" seal, a federally registered trademark that assures consumers they are purchasing genuine, top-quality Idaho® potatoes. Idaho's ideal growing conditions, including rich, volcanic soil, climate and irrigation differentiate Idaho® potatoes from potatoes grown in other states."
On the website they share various recipes including one that I came across for Potato Ice Cream. With Ingredients like 3 small Idaho Yukon potatoes, olive oil, milk, heavy cream, cream cheese, sour cream, sugar and light corn syrup it is sure to be an interesting frozen combo. Check out the full step by step recipe here. Be sure to give yourself enough time because it suggests that you freeze the mixture for at least 6 hours or overnight.
