With the weather finally starting to warm up and many of us having spring fever, it’s a perfect time to start planning out all of the outdoor activities we want to do for the season!

Purchasing outdoor gear and equipment can really add up. Especially if you’re like me, and want to try out a few things that you’ve never done before, like paddle boarding, and see how you like it. It can get spendy buying gear if you aren’t sure how often you will use it. Even some of the rentals around town can be costly. Outdoor Exchange is a local outdoor gear consignment store who was recently awarded $3,000 from the Zions Bank Smart Women's Grant. The grant money helped owner, Tracy Crites, launch her own low-cost rental program.

Rentals include backcountry safety packs, which include a backpack, beacon, probe and shovel, for $35, five-foot surfboards for $25, and stand up paddleboards for $25 per day.

She said it’s a passion of hers to keep things affordable and has become the mission of the shop.
