Ja Rule and Fyre Festival Sued for $100 Million
Last week, social media was flooded with images of the ill-fated Fyre Festival, organized by Ja Rule, entrepreneur Billy McFarland and the Fyre Media company. Ja sent out an apology shortly after the debacle, but that doesn't seem to be enough, as he and his fellow organizers are now being sued for $100 million.
According to IBankCoin.com, Ja and Billy McFarland's company Fyre Media are being hit with a $100 million class action lawsuit for their role in misleading Fyre Festival attendees about the quality of the event. A plaintiff by the name of Daniel Jung pulled no punches in the lawsuit filing.
"The festival’s lack of adequate food, water, shelter, and medical care created a dangerous and panicked situation among attendees—suddenly finding themselves stranded on a remote island without basic provisions—that was closer to The Hunger Games or Lord of the Flies than Coachella," reads one part of Jung's claim.
Although Ja and the event organizers promised to give Fyre Festival attendees full refunds, it might have been too little, too late. The event had been promoted by Kendall Jenner and advertised as an ultra-luxurious island music festival, but attendees were faced with FEMA-style tents instead of swanky villas. Ja didn't help matters with his original apology.
“We are working right now on getting everyone of[f] the island SAFE that is my immediate concern,” Ja Rule wrote a short time after news of the Fyre Festival chaos broke. “I will make a statement soon I’m heartbroken at this moment my partners and I wanted this to be an amazing event it was NOT A SCAM as everyone is reporting I don’t know how everything went so left but I’m working to make it right by making sure everyone is refunded… I truly apologize as this is NOT MY FAULT… but I’m taking responsibility I’m deeply sorry to everyone who was inconvenienced by this…”
