It can be a terrifying thought but when we really think about it, there is no way of really knowing if you're safe. Sure, many of us are fortunate enough to have a space we call home that we (presumably) feel safe in.
But, the only thing between you and what's happening outside is a few windows and doors. When you simplify what's between you and the outside to keep you safe, it's really not that much.

There are many ways to protect yourself including home security systems, fencing, guard animals, and of course, the classic Second Amendment that allows you to let freedom ring if your home is threatened.
Because we'd like to believe there aren't a lot of people who'd rather shoot first and ask questions later, we saw this preventative tool in a post from the Twin Falls Police Department that could help you feel safer... or more paranoid:
Have you ever wondered what police reports are being taken in your neighborhood? Well, we are excited to announce the release of our new crime mapping software to the public. Now you can go online and see the types of reports our agency is taking and the general areas. You can even set it to send you alerts about your neighborhood.
The map looks something like this:
As you can see, the map shows the crime's location and what the crime is. It's important to note that it doesn't update in real-time but it's still pretty awesome to see.
