It’s Been 26 Years Since Idaho’s Last Hurricane
This hurricane season is on pace to be a historical one and, unless you've been off the grid for a while, you're probably aware of the serious hurricane situation down in Florida.
One for the record books
Unfortunately for those in Florida, Hurricane Milton is one of the largest and most dangerous hurricanes to strike the area. This is coming in the aftermath of another recent major hurricane in Helene which was devastating on its own.
It should make most Idahoans feel so blessed and lucky that they're not in the path of a hurricane. Idahoans should never have to worry about hurricanes, right?
Wrong.
As a matter of fact, it's been 26 years since Idaho has experienced what we have found to be the only hurricane in Idaho's history.
What does a hurricane look like in Idaho?
Thankfully, hurricanes in Idaho are nothing like they are near the coast... obviously, but they can be big!
Idaho caught the tail end of Hurricane Isis which took place at the beginning of September in 1998. Luckily, we didn't see any major destruction but Idaho did experience heavy rainfall (3 inches per hour) on September 6th and 7th according to the United States Geological Survey.
The heavy rain reportedly caused flash flooding and mudslides within the Boise area.
While we're fortunate to not have to deal with the effects of massive hurricanes like our fellow Americans down in the gulf, we can still do our part to help where we can.
We found a site with multiple charities accepting donations to assist those affected by the hurricanes. You can visit and learn how to donate HERE.
