BEWARE: These Idaho Gyms Have Really Bad Cancellation Policies
Idaho has recently come a long way in the area of consumer protection. While the state's policies may not be as robust as New York or California, they don't need to be. They just need to be effective. The state is ahead of the curve in telemarketing and email marketing protection. Idaho does an excellent job protecting vulnerable populations like the elderly from scams.

A new law in New York is one that Idaho needs to consider. The new law ensures that gyms and health clubs take cancellations seriously. They need to process cancellations and give refunds within 10 business days. Any resident can cancel their membership without penalty in the first three days. Suppose someone becomes disabled for over three months or moves beyond a certain distance from the gym. In that case, the membership can also be canceled without penalty. These policies ensure that people aren't stuck in a contract that is hard to cancel even though the membership isn't being used.
Many gyms' business models involve locking you into a contract, making it difficult to cancel, and then continuing to collect your money even when you no longer use their services. Although I haven't used my gym membership in three years, I still pay $25 per month because the cancellation policy is so time-consuming and difficult to navigate. Idaho needs a law to protect people from these types of business practices.
I quickly reviewed some of Boise's most popular gyms' cancellation policies and compiled this list of the hardest to break.
