Classic Boise Bowling Alley 20th Century Lanes Announces Closure
Boise is losing a classic element of our entertainment culture, as 57 year-old bowling alley 20th Century Lanes (on State Street) will be closing at the end of June.
20th Century Lanes posted a message on their Facebook on Tuesday, explaining the situation.
“Today we have officially been given word that our lease offer has been rejected and a new tenant will be moving into our building. The news is very sudden and still seems surreal, but unfortunately it is true. The friendships and memories made here is immeasurable and we thank all of you who were a part of it over the last 57 years.”
In place of the bowling alley, Treasure Valley Skate will be launching. It will be a skating rink featuring a "high quality Cherry Maple floor," live DJ, party room, and more.
For families who have been looking for a skating option, this will definitely increase the options, but there are many who have expressed a sadness at seeing 20th Century Lanes and their unique brand of nostalgia exiting our community.
The Idaho Statesman's Michael Deeds visited 20th Century Lanes and provides further background on the situation in his article, HERE.
