The Ada County landfill uses a manned plane once a year to survey the landfill and collect data, which cost them $20,000 per flight. Officials say they will be able to cut their costs and save taxpayers around $13,000 annually all by using a drone. Sounds pretty good right??

Since it's almost no cost to fly once it’s been purchased, they will be able to fly it more than once and collect more data. The use of the drone won't stop at the landfill either. They will work with the weed, pest and mosquito department and concentrate on identifying invasive species.
