Today as we honor the men and women who have served and are serving in the armed forces, let's also think about the families here at home and how we can help them during deployment.

Deployed Military Families

I can't even imagine how tough it is to say goodbye to a family member when they board a plane or ship for deployment. That's just the beginning though. Spouses who stay here at home are left with all the responsibility that normally two people handled. They have the full responsibility of keeping the house running and taking care of the family. As a community we can help our friends and neighbors while their spouse is fighting for and protecting our freedom. The Today Show did a segment today on 7 ways to help military families during deployment.
1. Daily hassles-Things like a sick kid, a flat tire, a broken dishwasher are annoying to us but can feel ten times worse to a military family with only one spouse in the house. It might seem like an easy fix to us but these families need help so offer it up and don't just assume, "they can handle it."
2. Help. Don't wait for them to ask. Offer it up and follow through.
3. Holiday Cheer-Share it. This time of year has to be especially tough for families with a deployed spouse. Invite them over, kids and all. Include them. Bake cookies. Give them Winter Garden A Glow tickets or Festival of Trees passes. Offer to buy and set up their Christmas tree. Shovel their driveway when it snows.
