I'm not quite sure how it happened, but I ended my weekend hanging with a friend, working on some work stuff, and watching a show I've never really stopped to watch before; Naked and Afraid.

It made me wonder, how did I end up just watching this very odd show.  Even more, how in the world are there people who actually participate in this ridiculous show.

If you haven't watched it before, it's exactly what it sounds like.  It's a survivalist show in crazy remote locations, with the added challenge, that you're competing naked.

Fully naked.

They drop you off and your clothes are removed before you embark on your journey.  You're traveling through swamps, marshes, rocks, and insane terrain with no shoes and only a burlap sack.

Strangely, it seems the naked part quickly becomes less unusual than the mental challenges, attempting to deal with your partner (of the opposite sex), and more profoundly urgent, the search for food.

This is a truly insane show with some surreal circumstance, but the added layer of being completely exposed to the elements makes me wonder if it can be taken seriously.  It does seem the contestants take it as a true challenge, but I can't help but wonder where casting agents were able to find the people who end up in this world.

Ultimately, I stayed with it for three hours and three unique story arcs, and also ended up wondering how in the world I ended up watching this show for that long.
