Summer Road Trip to Laggon Amusement Park in Salt Lake City, Utah

As we head into summer road trip season, Lagoon Amusement Park is one of the closest full-scale amusement parks within a day’s drive of the Boise area. Whether you're screaming on the coasters, catching a live show, floating in the lazy river at Lagoona Beach, or slamming one of their famous churros, there's plenty to do at Utah's largest amusement park.

A Little Lagoon History

Lagoon first opened its gates in 1896 as a bathing resort and picnic ground. Over the years, it has become one of the most popular amusement parks in the West. It’s known for its classic wooden coaster, which has been running since 1921, and new thrills like Cannibal, one of the steepest rides in the world.

What Are Some Recent Changes at Lagoon?

Lagoon continues to expand. In 2023, they opened Primordial, a one-of-a-kind, interactive dark ride coaster that blends storytelling, gaming, and thrills. The park has also made upgrades to food offerings, including the addition of a beer garden several years ago.

More recent changes include the removal of the arguably dated animal enclosures where exotic cats were housed as part of the train ride attraction. The cats have been moved to a reserve, and the Lagoon zoo has been shut down.
