Wearing or not wearing a face mask has pretty much become a political statement in our society, but the CDC says wearing them will help slow the spread of COVID-19. Will Governor Little get to a point where he mandates Idahoans wear face masks?

There are already 19 states that require face masks in public. Those states (according to business insider)  are ...

  • California
  • Connecticut
  • Deleware
  • District of Columbia
  • Hawaii
  • Illinois
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • New Mexico
  • New York
  • Oregon
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island

On the flip side, the states of Montana, Wisconsin, Iowa, and South Dakota have no mask requirements at all.

So where does Idaho sit, kind of in the middle. Governor Little is "strongly urging Idahoans to wear face masks in public."

Governor Little told KTVB that he's stopping just short of mandating face masks, saying

“I just think it’s just maybe not the best practice to mandate something if you know nobody is going to do it,” he said. “They're going to say 'well we don't care; we're not going to do it.'”

The only thing that may push Governor Little to require face masks is if our COVID-19 numbers soar.

“If our numbers continue to go up, we're going to have to continue to emphasize and we may mandate it, but we really don't have the police force to enforce it,” he said.

Governor Little said the only exception to wearing a face mask is if you are going to be outside in the sun where you can social distance and keep 6-feet away from others.
