The Most Popular Cocktail in Idaho During The Pandemic Was…
. Collectively, we've all struggled this past year and a lot of us turned to an extra glass or two to alleviate those struggles.
There have been multiple studies that reveal an increase in alcohol consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, I didn't need any kind of study to reveal that to me. So we know people have been drinking more, but what have they been drinking more of specifically?
The travel blog Upgraded Points analyzed Google Trends data from March 2020 to March of this year to determine which cocktails Americans searched for most in each state and on a national scope. Here in Idaho our drink of choice was Hot Buttered Rum!
Hot Buttered Rum is described as tasting like "Christmas in a cup." Here's a recipe from Betty Crocker if you want to make it for yourself! As an Idahoan though, you might already know all about Hot Buttered Rum.
Upgraded Points actually considered seasonal trends as well determining the most searched cocktails in both the warmer months and cold months. While Hot Buttered Rum was popular year-round in Idaho, Mai Tai was the winner in the summer months. Ricky was the most searched drink during the winter which is a drink made from gin or bourbon, half of a lime, and carbonated water.
The most popular cocktail in the country (based on the number of states searching for each drink most frequently) was the mimosa! I'm in full agreement with this one. Not to sound like an alcoholic, but I could drink a Mimosa and any time of the day, any day!
