Boise, Idaho. Moments after Boise ushered in the New Year with its famous Idaho Potato Drop, the St. Luke's Labor and Delivery team welcomed their first baby of 2023!

Congratulations, Jana and Abhinav! They're the proud parents of beautiful baby Elora. The local couple and first-time parents have received the warmest of welcomes from Boise's Treasure Valley.

In the months leading up to baby's big day, obstetricians highly recommend expectant mothers and fathers to elect a birth plan. This is especially true for novice parents. For some couples, all goes according to their skillfully crafted plan. For Jana and Abhinav, their baby girl had her own ideas about how she would enter the world.

Jana's due date was Jan. 6, 2023, however Parents magazine reports that "only 4% of [expectant mothers] give birth on their due date." But something told Jana her little girl would arrive in her own time.

"I had an inkling she would come before the end of the year," said the first-time mother.

Jana and Abhinav planned to bring in the new year with a leisurely stroll around their community. But the couples' stroll was quickly rerouted to St. Luke's maternity ward after Jana's water broke!
