Have you ever read a book about a place with so much detail that you felt like you could see it in your mind? Or have you ever watched a movie or a TV show that made you want to book a vacation to be in that world, even for a few days? There are fictional locations all over the world that are described so vividly that people want a piece of them, even though they don't exist.

The Bates Motel is a great example of a place that doesn't exist, but because of the way it was portrayed in Psycho, people want to have a connection to it. That's why you can buy a keychain from the place or a vintage postcard from the roadside inn.
After the movie Black Panther came out, people tried to book their flights to Wakanda, only to discover that it wasn't a real place, even though Starbucks sold a mug from there.
What about Amity Island from Jaws? They sell t-shirts and signs from a vacation town that doesn't exist.
There are plenty of other examples, too. Jurassic Park, Springfield from the Simpsons, Gotham City, and the Mos Eisley Cantina from Star Wars are fictional locations that make money from the merchandise you normally buy from an airport gift shop or a truck stop in real towns.
Idaho has one of these places. Disney continues to make money on a resort called Lake Destiny, Idaho. They just released a new RSVLTS Hoodie promoting this fictional resort from A Goofy Movie.
