Ten Digit Phone Number Dialing Won’t be Optional After August
After August 5, if you try to make a call without dialing an area code you will get a recording that says to hang up and try again.
You will have to dial the full 10-digit phone number, including area code 208 or Idaho’s second area code 986, which will be issued to new users starting September 5...
10 Digit Dialing and New Area Code on the Way
Idaho is easing its way into 10-digit dialing. It’s called the "permissive dialing period," which means the 208 area code can be added to all local dialing. By this time next year, it will be mandatory.
