Should I be Getting Non-Candy Halloween Treats?
Halloween and candy, those two words always seem to go together or at least that's what I thought until recently. When I was growing up it was all a big competition between my brothers as far as who could collect the most amount of candy. Then we would spend way too much time looking and and sorting our stacks of candy and sometimes making trades with the candies we didn't want.
I guess I have heard about all the things you have to be careful with at school as far as food allergies but I didn't even think about that when it came to treats for neighborhood kids that go trick-or-treating. There was a post on the Nextdoor App in my neighborhood asking what parents would like to see as Non-Candy treats I thought it was a joke at first but the more I saw parents commenting I realized it was real.
Now that I realize how many kids that actually cannot enjoy those delicious treats I feel like I should be getting some non-candy treats too. As much as I love the tradition of candy when kids are trick-or-treating, it's not their fault they have food allergies and I don't want them to miss out on the fun because of it.
The suggested non-candy toys were: Bouncy balls, stickers, witch fingers, spiders, temporary tattoos, bracelets, light up rings or necklaces. Lots of these items can be found at the dollar store so it doesn't become super expensive to offer both candy and non-candy treats.
