If your commute took you down Broadway Avenue near Boise Sate on Tuesday, you may have seen one of Boise's most iconic sandwich shops being demolished.

The Cobby's on Broadway has been dark since late January. With little fanfare, the owners announced that original Cobby's location had closed its doors for good via a Facebook post three days after its final day. They've continued to operate their locations on Overland in Boise and Chinden in Garden City.

Demolition crews were on the property Tuesday to remove the Cobby's location and nail salon that used to occupy the spot next to it, leading many to wonder what's next for some prime real estate near Boise State.

Well, there's some good news! The land is back in the hands of a local owner, Norco CEO Jim Kissler. When I asked him what was coming to the location next, he didn't have a tenant nailed down yet but from the time I've spent with him in the tailgate lot at BSU, we know that he loves his Broncos so I'm sure whatever he picks will be great for both football fans and students.

Kissler also owns the Broadway Avenue building that was once home to Murphy's Steak and Seafood, Tilted Kilt and Tap and Cask. You could see something happening inside there soon. I really think that it's something the surrounding community will embrace and help thrive there. Out of respect for the potential tenant and the fact this conversation happened during happened while tailgating, I won't spoil the surprise until there's a solid announcement to make from all the parties involved.
