Netflix Hit Features Idaho Girl Who Was Kidnapped Twice
The story is beyond disturbing and it hits pretty close to home. This little girl from Pocatello, Idaho was kidnapped by a family "friend" twice and the story has become a major hit on Netflix.
The story of Jan Broberg is closer to me than most. Jan has been a friend to my family for years and her son Austin is one of my brothers best friends. I had always heard through the hush-hush conversations between my parents that Jan had been kidnapped, but I had no idea the extent of her ordeal until I watched "Abducted in Plain Sight" on Netflix.
This all went down in our very own Pocatello, Idaho back in the 1970s. I don't want to completely ruin the story for you, but essentially when Jan was just 12-years-old a close friend of the family who was in his 40's at the time, Robert Berchtold, kidnapped her, basically brain-washed her, and manipulated her family for years. When Jan was 14 he kidnapped her again.
If you are unfamiliar with this story and even if you think you have heard about it, you seriously need to watch "Abducted in Plain Sight." It's one of the most disturbing stories I have ever watched and it all happened in our own backyard.
Luckily, today Jan is a successful actress and activist who resides in St. George, Ut. Her story of survival may make you cringe but how she has moved forward and continued to live her life is nothing less than inspiring.
